WELCOME

Drive & Survive is a driver improvement system suitable for all ages and all standards of driver. Perhaps you are a newly qualified driver looking to build confidence and technique and reduce your statistically-high risk of accident? Or maybe you have been driving for years, and would like to correct any bad habits and improve your skills? Either way, Drive & Survive can help.

Drive & Survive introduces drivers to the system of defensive driving promoted by the IAM (Institute of Advanced Drivers), which, in itself, is based on the Police system of driving.

How it works

The Drive & Survive observer accompanies you as passenger on a planned route that takes you through a variety of road and traffic conditions. During and after the trip an evaluation of your current driving technique will be made according to a multi-point system. You will be encouraged to develop skills according to this evaluation, not just in terms of physical car control, but hazard perception, anticipation, vehicle sympathy and roadcraft..

This is not formal instruction in the normal sense of 'driving instruction' when learning to drive - because you already know how to do that. Rather it is a structured evaluation of your driving technique, which will enable you to identify any aspects that you can improve with defensive driving techniques. And we'll give you those techniques. Unlike most driving lessons, each drive is relaxed and informal, allowing you to feel at ease and focus on attitude and technique.

Driving standards

Your Observer, Nik, is a qualified member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and a trained observer. He has undertaken a variety of additional training from a qualified Class 1 Police instructor.

Geographical Coverage

Based in Ely, Cambridgeshire, covering all the surrounding villages of Chettisham, Littleport, Little Downham, Witchford, Sutton, Little Thetford, Stretham, Haddenham, Soham, Downham Market. Also covering further afield by arrangement, such as: Milton, Cambridge, Newmarket, Chatteris etc.

fees

Drives vary in duration for various reasons, but it's important for customers to know how much they're going to spend. For this reason standard fees are not by the hour, but according a fixed set of prices - this way it doesn't matter if your drive takes more time than planned: you won't pay any extra.

Initial Assessment Drive - £15 - minimum 40 minutes
Standard drive - £20 - 45 minutes
Extended drive - £30 - 80 minutes
Custom drive - £20 per hour

Please note that drive time does include pre- and post- briefing (5 mins), but you will not be charged extra if the drive over-runs.

What are the benefits of Defensive Driving?

Every year in the UK 3500 people are killed on Britain's roads. Despite the increase in Government 'safety measures' such as the greater deployment of Speed and Safety Cameras, this figure is not decreasing.

There is, however, a way to tackle this problem: improvement in driving standards. Practising Defensive Driving techniques is the surest way to protect yourself from becoming one of those statistics.

Roadcraft
See the road differently- understand and anticipate hazards. Take the stress out of driving, and learn to enjoy motoring.

Save money
drive more economically and cut fuel costs. Reduce the cost of vehicle maintenance. Advanced drivers can also save money on car insurance.

Safety
95% of accidents are caused by human error. Improve your safety and reduce the risk of accidents and collisions. Protect yourself and your family out on the road. Newly qualified young drivers are at three times the risk of accident than older motorists.
